Choosing directions for Mplus: From SEM to DSEM
Abstract
This talk gives a description of why Dynamic Structural Equation Modeling (DSEM) was chosen as the new feature for Mplus Version 8. After some brief illustrations of novel directions chosen in the 20-some years of Mplus, the motivation for developing the methods of Version 8 is discussed. This involved a combination of several different strands of methods in previous Mplus versions plus a large dose of novelties. It also involved an outsider’s bet on what type of data may become a significant part of future research.
