Modeling change in psychopathological networks with DSEM

Abstract

The network approach is becoming increasingly popular in clinical psychology. According to this approach, mental disorders such as depression should be seen as complex systems, and the focus is on symptoms and their interaction. A popular method to infer clinical networks is the multilevel vector autoregressive model. One important hypothesis of the network approach is that therapeutic interventions for individuals suffering from depression not only cause a decrease in symptoms, but can also change the network structure. We will show how this can be modeled and tested in Mplus using the multilevel DSEM.
